Kewpies
The Museum of Discovery’s Kewpie collection
is one of the largest in the world. The Museum's
collection ranges from greeting cards and tea sets
to porcelain dolls and jigsaw puzzles. Assorted
Kewpies are displayed on a regular basis.
Mummy Coffin
The Museum of Discovery acquired the mummy case
in 1973. The mummy coffin is free of previous restoration
and in superb condition. The coffin was made in
Apu (Panopolis), Egypt circa 600 B.C. While some
facts remain a mystery, there is much we do know
about the mummy case.
Animal Collection
The Museum of Discovery has over 51 species of
animals. They are often used in outreach programs
or animal programs at the Museum. Ranging from
owls to spiders, there are animals of all shapes
and sizes.
Miss Kyoto
Friendship Dolls such as Miss Kyoto arrived in
America in 1926. They were gifts from the children
of Japan to commemorate the history and friendship
between Japan and the United States. Many Friendship
dolls were destroyed during World War II.
Thirty-five
dolls of the Japanese dolls have been located in
the United States, including Miss Kyoto.
Multicultural
Masks
Multicultural masks make up one of the largest
collections at the Museum of Discovery. Many masks
feature animals and are of the type frequently
used in festivals. |
