Friendship Dolls such as Miss Kyoto arrived in America in 1926. They were gifts from the children of Japan to commemorate the history and friendship between Japan and the United States. Many Friendship dolls were destroyed during World War II. Thirty-five dolls of the Japanese dolls have been located in the United States, including Miss Kyoto.
